Recent Works by Michael Soi and Ogonga Thom

24 June-25 July 2012. This exhibition gathers together the most recent works by two Kenyan artists: the award winning Michael Soi and the self-taught Ogonga Thom.

Soi graduated from art school 1996 and worked at the Kuona Trust Centre for Visual Arts, as the workshops and international exchange coordinator from 2005 to 2010. His style is highly distinctive: his three dimensional work is playful and cryptic and his paintings provide satirical commentary on socio-political issues. Soi is inspired by the city of Nairobi and its activities. His works feature in various international collections, such as the Casoria Museum of Contemporary Art in Italy, the Standard Chartered Bank Collection in the United Kingdom.

Thom is a self-taught artist, specialized in painting, printmaking and recently also in experimental photography. He is inspired by fashion, music, urban lifestyles and even more fascinated by the controversial city nightlife. Thom has participated to various public art projects and workshops both locally and abroad.
