Lagos at 50 events take place from 8 April until 27 May.
The final celebration of Lagos State’s Golden Jubilee will last for 50 days, beginning on 8 April and ending on 27 May, according to the Lagos At 50 planning committee.
The 50-day programme of cultural activities is the culmination in a year-long celebration which began last May to mark the half-century milestone since the state was founded in 1967.
The programme begins on 8 April with Wakaa, a musical at the Muson Centre, and ends on 27 May with a gala night of music, food, art and the release of an anniversary book containing images of Lagos by 50 photographers.
Highlights in between include FELA, a three-day musical based on the career of Afrobeat creator Fela Anikulapo Kuti; a regatta on 15 April in Epe, Badagry and Lagos Island; the Jazz Meets Fashion event on 30 April; and a workers’ day celebration on 1 May at Agege Stadium.
On 5 May there is a screening of Nollywood films in various locations; the Lagos Carnival takes place on 13 May in the Island and Mainland zones; and on 20 May the Eyo Festival returns after five years at Tafawa Balewa Square.
