For the first time this year children aged four have started school in Ghana, thanks to a reform providing free compulsory universal education for eleven rather than nine years. Under the previous system Ghanaians began school at primary level, aged six, and continued until 15. Now two years of kindergarten will precede the previous six years of primary school and three years of junior secondary school
