Italian film festival in Maputo

The fifth annual Italian Film Festival in Maputo opens on 15 March and runs until 22 March.

The festival opens with Francesco Bruni's "Scialla", which won the out-of-competition award at the 2012 Venice film festival, and there will be screenings every night at 18.30 in Maputo's cinemas.

All screenings are free of charge, and the festival will feature an exchange between Italian and Mozambican cinema whereby Mozambican directors present the films of their Italian counterparts.

The programme includes "L'Industriale" by Giuliano Montaldo; "Lo spazio bianco" by Francesca Comencini; "La scomparsa di Pato'" by Rocco Mortelliti; and "La kryptonite nella borsa" by Ivan Cotroneo.

Launching the festival, the Italian ambassador to Mozambique Roberto Vellano highlighted the success of past editions, with last year's festival attracting about 600 people for each screening.
