Pupils at state primary and secondary schools are to study peace education as of January 2009 in a move aimed at countering the negative effects of the post-election violence in the country early this year.

The syllabus for the new subject includes sessions on conflict management and resolution, problem solving, perception and bias and negotiation and reconciliation. Lessons are to be taught using interactive methods such as role-play. Students will not be examined specifically on the programme although questions on peace will feature in examinations in other relevant subjects.
